I always wonder whether sepia improves an image or not. Beautiful composition here and I like the contrast in the sky (red filter?).

As I gravitate again to monochrome--the place I started--I wage the debate of contrast, detail, histogram, and toning with every creation.

@Gerald Cafferty and several others of our merry group on both sides of the pond have gained a mastery of choosing tone, exposure, and content in a way that conveys a sound feeling of time and place.

In my 'wet' days, the go-to was usually a selenium bath. Or maybe chromium. Various concoctions were available to achieve tones of blue, copper, coffee, sepia, and other effects. We are not even discussing VC papers with dichroic filters... 🧙‍♂️

The great bromide printing papers that made many tones such as this popular in the art scene are now mostly gone. In a whole different method--but actually the same--we now do this sort of thing in digital post process.

I am curious as well. Red filter on the lens, or a red slider on post?

This image transports me to another time in my life, and the hopes and dreams of a portion of it. It holds a certain 'spectral' light that just draws one's thoughts right into it...

Hi Patrick, I don't use coloured filters just the sliders in Lightroom. I do sometimes use an IR filter and have some ND filter that I rarely use, the toning is applied with my own preset.
Thank you and Jay for the comments.
