What Is a Shutter Count? How To Check the Shutter Count

This maybe a coincidence but since trying this on my Fuji it keeps creating a folder called ACTIVITY on my SD card and the frame counter has zeroed.
I have tried another freshly formatted SD card and it has happened again.
Fortunately the camera still appears to work OK.
