"Managing a boutique hotel chain across the UK, I aim to significantly improve our online presence with captivating photography that accurately reflects the luxury and uniqueness of our properties. Our current imagery doesn't capture the essence or ambiance effectively. I seek photography services or guidance from seasoned photographers with experience in the hospitality sector, focusing on the UK market. What are the crucial aspects of hospitality photography that can help potential guests visualize the experience and allure of our hotels?"

First and foremost, I recommend seeking out photography services or guidance from seasoned professionals with a strong portfolio in the hospitality sector, particularly focusing on the UK market. Look for photographers who have experience capturing the ambiance, architecture, and unique features of hotels, as well as those skilled in highlighting the finer details that make each property distinctive.

  • Focus on Atmosphere: Photography should evoke the atmosphere and mood of your hotels, whether it's the cozy elegance of a boutique bedroom, the vibrant ambiance of a lobby lounge, or the serene beauty of outdoor spaces. Lighting, composition, and styling play crucial roles in creating the desired atmosphere.

  • Showcase Unique Features: Highlight the distinctive features and amenities of each property that set it apart from others. Whether it's architectural details, interior design elements, scenic views, or recreational facilities, showcase these aspects prominently in your photography to pique interest and create a sense of exclusivity.

  • Tell a Story: Use photography to tell a compelling narrative about your hotel chain, its history, ethos, and the experiences it offers guests. Incorporate storytelling elements into your imagery to evoke emotions and create a connection with potential guests, inviting them to imagine themselves as part of the narrative.

PT, it a great topic. I travel a lot. I enjoy checking out the photography in the hotels and restaurants and I always do. Most recent, t here is a dinner in Enola, PA called "The Squeaky Rail". It sits across from the Enola Train Yard. The restaurant has many very old photos of trains and railroad crews. I enjoy establishments like that displaying local images.

I read and hear that the whole travel industry is now deluged with "influencers" who appear to be nothing more than parasites with a smartphone.

I'll concede that the traditional corporate or "travel writer" professionals are threatened--sort of what happened to travel agents. But there will always be a need for those to interpret and present the official narrative! Having never taken such coursework, does anyone know if special techniques (along with the camera sense) are taught in hospitality management programs? I would think that there would be an entire media communication track.

You have it figured out. When we are traveling distances, we often depart the interstate for the hearts of the small towns a few miles away from them. Thats where the restaurants are!
