Back in the days of film, adjusting the exposure compensation, often followed by a N+ development process was a thing. I am seeing with my X-T5 that EC is very helpful in correcting blowout of highlights.

Some 'savants' recommend setting an ISO to auto and fixing the speed and f-stop--then applying a bit of EC. I am playing about with this now. This video I just watched, and wonder what others think:

I habitually use -0.3 EC because I like the saturation.

Good video, thank you.

I reckon understanding and using EC in any of the Auto or Semi-Auto modes is definitely a worthwhile skill.

However a technique of EC may be limiting, if universally applied.

If we split the photos we want to make into two categories, being:
1. dependent upon exact shutter release timing (as examples - many, sports; dance; street; etc)
2. non dependent upon exact shutter release timing (as examples - many, landscape; architecture; controlled portraiture; etc)

I reckon the very good exposure 'control' for all in category (2), is bracketing on either Tv, Av or ISO, depending upon the shooting situation: digital is so inexpensive, I like to have options later, for the Digital Darkroom.
